[edit] History
The station signed on the air on February 14, 1953 as KTTS-TV and was the sister station to KTTS-AM & FM. By the 1960s they would change owners and call letters to KOLR in 1970 to reflect the station's conversion to color as TV shows and sets were moving away from black & white. They also shared a secondary ABC affiliation with KYTV until 1967 when KMTC signed on. KMTC would later end up becoming KOLR's sister station, Fox affiliate KSFX.
KOLR was acquired by Nexstar Broadcasting Group through its Mission Broadcasting subsidiary in 2003 when Nexstar acquired Quorum Broadcasting.
KOLR began full power HDTV broadcasting on January 19, 2007.
Promotional Push: "You've Got a Friend at Ten."
KOLR ten has the longest-running evening achor team in the Ozarks.

[edit] Special Projects/Civic Journalism
KOLR has been known to hold "townhall" meetings in the community, allowing an expert panel to address questions on issues pertaining to the public. In 2006, the war in Iraq was the hot topic on the Missouri State University campus. The following year, "Children in Poverty" at Remington's addressed the growing population of Ozarks kids going hungry. The station reported that nearly 45% of all children in the Springfield R-12 School District were eligible for free or reduced lunches. After the tragic ice storm in January 2007, KOLR held two "Reforest the Ozarks" initiatives, by offering inexpensive trees to viewers. KOLR/KSFX also gets in on the Fourth of July celebration in the Ozarks, by offering a live show at "Firefall" the weekend before Independence Day. KOLR/KSFX held a "Storm Academy" in May 2007 to help educate the public of weather. KOLR also has a "going green" initiative in the works.
[edit] Personal Portraits
Anchor Joy Robertson is known for her "personal portraits," which profile individuals in the Ozarks who usually face/overcome obstacles. She's recently followed the life of Julie Johnson, who underwent a gastric bypass operation and lost more than 200 pounds. She's also profiled Andy Williams, whose brother died of Alzheimer's, and has also been known to profile "people watchers." Joy joined KOLR 10 in 1997.
[edit] Oliver's Ozarks
Anchor David Oliver's special projects air more frequently, each Tuesday evening at 10 p.m. Each one profiles a noteworthy in-depth operation, person, or event around the Ozarks. David has been known to have one-on-ones with Branson celebrities, showcase "horseshoe art" and talk to decendants of L. Frank Baum, the creator of the "Oz" series, which is still a thriving business. David joined KOLR in late 2003.
[edit] Viewer's Club
The Viewer's Club Card (VCC) is a discount and cash giveaway card available to any person who applies for it. Each weeknight, KOLR10 News airs a :20 promotion during the 6 o'clock and 10 o'clock newscasts that will show a Viewer's Club Card number that wins a $200 prize.
[edit] OzarksFirst.com
The station's re-vamped website debuted in the early Spring of 2007. The community was reluctant to approach it at first, but have since embraced it. It offers classified ads, message boards, news content from both KSFX and KOLR 10, Weather & Sports updates, Anchor/Reporter blogs, recipes, TV guides, community directories, and more.
[edit] Ted Keller a.k.a. "Tornado Ted"
Senior Meteorologist Ted Keller is perhaps the station's most-prized employee. Keller has worked at the station since 1986. He's from Chicago, Illinois. He went to school at Northern Illinois University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology in December, 1984. He's also heavily involved in teaching weather at Missouri State University. He's in charge of the entire beginning weather course as well as a special Severe Weather course. He's good buddies with Tom Trtan, who's also known as a valuable and popular weather personality at the station.
